Cheap Eats Manila: Monga Best Taiwanese Style Fried Chicken SM Megamalls. Monga is one of the fastest growing Taiwanese Style Fried Chicken Restaurant chains in the world. It was created by Taiwanese comedian Nono and his partner Mingdao Liu when they opened the first branch in Shinkuchan Taiwan in 2008 and currently have expanded to 45 branches in Taiwan, China, Canada, USA, UK, Singapore, Malaysia and now in the Philippines brought in by the Vikings Group at the SM Megamall on November 6, 2019.
Monga is named after Taipei’s oldest neighbourhood but it is now
synonymous with insanely crispy giant 2 cm thick cut Taiwanese-style fried chicken. The cutlets are marinated in honey before being coated in a buttermilk batter then double fried.
From their simple one page menu we would highly recommend The King for is for purists as it is seasoned with salt and pepper, The Taiker which is seasoned with Okinawa Seaweed grounded into powder, Fried King Oyster Mushrooms and Signature Fries. For refreshments they also have Brown Sugar Boba Milk Teas with Oolong or Green Tea base.
